To commemorate the occasion, we welcomed the esteemed Sir Subhasish Chakraborty, a distinguished columnist and language connoisseur, who regaled us with rare anecdotes of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar—the luminous beacon of societal reform. With eloquent finesse, he unveiled Vidyasagar’s ardent crusade against child marriage and for widow remarriage, while also sharing tales of his mischievous youth and his meteoric rise to Principal of Sanskrit College and School Inspector at a tender age.

On 15th August 2024, G.D. Goenka Public School, Habra, commemorated the spirit of freedom and patriotism with a grand celebration of India’s 77th Independence Day. The event began with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by a march past, which reflected the discipline and unity of our students.

The program featured inspiring speeches, patriotic songs, and cultural performances that showcased the rich heritage of our nation. Students from different classes came together to pay tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices gave us the India we cherish today.

This Independence Day not only reminded us of our glorious past but also encouraged every student to dream and work towards a brighter, progressive future for our country.

Life is replete with obstacles, and overcoming these challenges imparts essential life skills. At GD Goenka Public School, Habra, our students embrace this philosophy daily. On the 2nd of August 2024, Friday, G D GOENKA PUBLIC SCHOOL HABRA organised an exhilarating inter-house sports event featuring an OCR(Obstacle Course Race )for students from standards 6 to 8.

We are delighted to announce that Teresa House emerged victorious, securing the winning trophy, while Tagore House achieved the runner-up position. This event showcased our students’ remarkable determination and resilience. The joy, love, and camaraderie shared by both students and teachers were truly heartwarming.

What an unforgettable event it was! Not only did our students participate with enthusiasm, but our teachers also actively joined in, providing motivation and encouragement. This event was a splendid celebration of teamwork, perseverance, love, and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all participants, and a special commendation to Teresa House and Tagore House for their exceptional performances. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved. Keep up the excellent work!

On 29th July 2024, Monday, our enthusiastic students from standards 3 to 5 demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship, showcasing the true essence of sports spirit—motivation, respect, and camaraderie among all participants.

The energy and excitement were palpable as our young athletes inspired their teams and cheered on their opponents with unwavering support. We are overjoyed to congratulate Teresa House for emerging as the champions and Radhakrishnan House for securing the runner-up position.

We couldn’t be prouder of all our students for their outstanding performances and for embodying the core values of sports. Keep shining and making us proud!

GDGPS Habra proudly salutes the brave martyrs of the Kargil War on Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The G.D. Goenka Public School, Habra, held a solemn yet spirited celebration of Kargil Vijay Diwas, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of our armed forces. The event commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony, led by the esteemed Lieutenant Colonel Shanti Bhushan Das, setting a tone of reverence and patriotism.

Following the flag hoisting, the students gathered to watch a documentary on the Kargil War, providing them with a poignant visual recount of the events that shaped this significant chapter in India’s history. This was succeeded by an engaging quiz session, which tested the students’ knowledge and deepened their understanding of the war’s significance.

The highlight of the day was the sharing of personal war experiences by Lieutenant Colonel Shanti Bhushan Das, Army veteran Anand Biswas, and international martial artist Sukhendu Mondal. Their compelling stories offered a firsthand glimpse into the challenges and courage displayed during the conflict, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.

The program also featured a touching recitation performance and a duet by a teacher and a group of students, which added a poetic element to the event, beautifully capturing the emotions of the day. Additionally, the school reached out and visited the home of a student whose father, Sir Amal Biswas, served in a clerical position during the Kargil War. The school presented him with a small token of gratitude, acknowledging his service and sacrifice.

The celebration concluded with the national anthem, stirring a sense of pride and unity, followed by a photo session that captured the memorable moments of this significant day. The event was a fitting tribute to the heroes of Kargil, fostering a sense of respect and admiration among the students and faculty for the valor of our armed forces.

Health and Wellness Program

Under the Health and Wellness Program conducted every Tuesday, Ms. Udita Samaddar, the school nurse, organized a workshop on handwashing. This workshop focused on educating students about the importance of proper hand hygiene to prevent the spread of germs and illnesses. Participants learned the correct techniques for handwashing, the significance of regular handwashing, and the impact of good hygiene practices on overall health. The interactive sessions aimed to instill lifelong habits that contribute to a healthier school environment.

Celebration of Van Mahotsav Day

In a heartfelt celebration of Van Mahotsav Day, the young stewards of G.D. Goenka Public School, Habra, embarked on a noble journey to protect our green lungs. On the serene morning of July 11th, 2024, the vibrant grounds of Ashok Nagar General Hospital witnessed a transformation. Thirty saplings, symbols of hope and life, found their new homes, nurtured by the tender hands of the students.

The day unfolded like a poem, each moment imbued with the essence of nature’s grandeur. Students, teachers, the principal, and the headmistress, united in their mission, became one with the earth. With every seedling planted, they whispered promises of a greener tomorrow. The hospital campus, once a canvas of potential, now blossomed with the colors of commitment and care.

Laughter and learning intertwined as the young environmentalists worked side by side with their mentors, each spade of soil turned becoming a stanza in this ode to nature. It was a day where hearts and hands worked in harmony, leaving behind a legacy of greenery and growth. The experience was nothing short of magical, a reminder that in nurturing nature, we nurture our souls.
