The G.D. Goenka Public School, Habra, held a solemn yet spirited celebration of Kargil Vijay Diwas, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of our armed forces. The event commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony, led by the esteemed Lieutenant Colonel Shanti Bhushan Das, setting a tone of reverence and patriotism.
Following the flag hoisting, the students gathered to watch a documentary on the Kargil War, providing them with a poignant visual recount of the events that shaped this significant chapter in India’s history. This was succeeded by an engaging quiz session, which tested the students’ knowledge and deepened their understanding of the war’s significance.
The highlight of the day was the sharing of personal war experiences by Lieutenant Colonel Shanti Bhushan Das, Army veteran Anand Biswas, and international martial artist Sukhendu Mondal. Their compelling stories offered a firsthand glimpse into the challenges and courage displayed during the conflict, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.
The program also featured a touching recitation performance and a duet by a teacher and a group of students, which added a poetic element to the event, beautifully capturing the emotions of the day. Additionally, the school reached out and visited the home of a student whose father, Sir Amal Biswas, served in a clerical position during the Kargil War. The school presented him with a small token of gratitude, acknowledging his service and sacrifice.
